Who we are

A home for ndi Igbo in Queensland

Nwannedinamba Queensland was formed on 13 September 2003 by Igbo families who wanted a place to keep their culture and to come together in fellowship, far from home.

Today we are a not-for-profit association for Igbo people across Queensland, their families, and anyone who wants to share in Igbo culture. We celebrate together, support each other through life’s milestones, and make sure our children grow up knowing where they come from.

Our story

What we do

Culture you can feel, people you can call on

From the annual New Yam Festival to quiet support when a member loses a loved one, our work comes down to four things.

  1. 01

    Celebrate our culture

Iri Ji (the New Yam Festival), masquerade performances, traditional music and dance, and Igbo cooking, shared with the wider Queensland community.

  2. 02

    Fellowship and support

Regular gatherings where members connect, plus practical and emotional support through weddings, births, illness and bereavement.

  3. 03

Pass it on to our children

Helping Australian-born children learn Igbo language, proverbs, values and customs, so they grow up proud of their heritage.

  4. 04

    Grow together

Networking, mentoring and help for new arrivals settling into life in Queensland, from study and work to finding a home.
