Originally formed on the 13th of September 2003, Nwannedinamba Association Inc in Queensland was borne out of the need for the Igbos in Queensland to maintain the Igbo culture, provide an avenue to come together and enjoy each other’s company and brotherhood. The vision was to provide a platform for the children to enjoy when they grow as narrated by all of the founding members interviewed.
“We wanted to maintain our culture, give our children something to enjoy, be a bridge between culture so that some of our members or children who are/may marry into other cultures could still be part of the group(O.U)” As corroborated by most of the founding members, the origin of Nwannedinamba Association has been credited to the untiring efforts of Late Dr Charles Adighibe (popularly known as Oga Charlie) who felt the need to bring his Igbo brothers together to discuss issues that concerned them. According to his wife, Mrs Queen Adighibe (popularly known as Madam Social), “he always wanted an opportunity to be with his brothers and on meeting Dr Donald Okeke (his co- worker at Queensland Government) at a meeting organised by the Nigerian Association, this interest grew as both continued discussion after every meeting over dinner at our place, on how to reach the other Igbo’s resident in Queensland”. She shared in her late husband’s passion for brotherhood, and the discussion gained momentum very quickly as Mr Obiyo Ukabiala, Mrs Suzy Okite (popularly known as Ada Igbo, who was known for caring for the new members/arrivals), Dr Emeka Ezeajughi and Sunday Ali, all became part of the discussion at various points and decided to start a formal meeting.
